Everything you need to know for the first day of camp:
Where are the camps located?
Elementary camp is located at Westminster Academy, 5601 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308.
Preschool camp is located across the street in the early childhood area at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5555 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308.
Where do I go on the first day of Camp (drop-off and pick-up)?
Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and morning care begins at 8:00 a.m. Please have your child at camp no later than 9:30 a.m. due to field trip departure times.
We are going to use the same drop off procedures that we use at school. It’s proven to be effective for the parents and safe for the children.
ALL campers should exit their cars on the side of the main buildings onto the sidewalk. Please do not let anyone exit the car from the other side into the other lane of traffic. Your child will be greeted by a staff member and escorted to the adjoining picnic tables. When their fellow campers arrive they will go with their counselors to begin their first day of a camp.
Afternoon pick-up starts at 3:00 p.m. We provide aftercare from 3:00 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. and the pickup will be in the Lower School Media Center for the elementary camp and the early childhood area at Coral Ridge for the preschool camp.
Is there aftercare?
Aftercare is available for elementary camp from 3:00 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. for $15 per day. There is a $1.00 a minute charge after 5:30 p.m.
For preschool camp, aftercare is available from 3:00 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. for $15 per day.
What should my child wear to camp?
Campers should wear a swimsuit with a t-shirt and shoes each day before swimming (girls should also wear shorts and a t-shirt over their suit). shorts, t-shirts (appropriate logos please), sneakers and socks to camp. Flip-flops or sandals are not allowed. Keep it simple. This is camp. They will get dirty. Each camper will receive a Camp t-shirt that must be worn on field trip days. Additional shirts may be purchased for $10.00 each. Please put your child’s name on everything, especially towels, socks, and goggles. If marked items are lost we can identify them and return them to you. By the end of the summer, the camp office will be the proud owner of lots of socks, towels, and t-shirts that are not labeled.
Does my child need sunscreen?
Please put sunscreen on your child before he/she arrives at camp. We will reapply sunscreen as needed throughout the day.
What should my child bring to camp?
A camper should pack a LIGHT bag each morning. Campers should bring a packed lunch as well as extra snacks if needed. Campers need only to bring a bathing suit and a bath-sized towel every day! Swim goggles are an accepted addition to kids with chlorine sensitive eyes and some children will want a sweatshirt if they get cold in the rooms or at the Wednesday movie.
Money, toys, and electronic devices are best left at home. We will provide all necessary equipment and supplies and shall not be held responsible for lost items.
What will my child eat and drink at camp?
Each child is required to pack his or her own lunch as well as extra snacks if needed. We offer lunch each day at the cost of $6. Please pack your child a morning and an afternoon snack.
What should I do if my child is sick?
Please keep your child at home for 24 hours after a temperature goes down or if they complain of a stomachache, earache or a headache. From experience, we have found you will soon be back to pick them up. It is better to be over cautious than to risk exposing the rest of the staff and the children to contagious sickness.
We are equipped to deal with minor cuts, scratches, abrasions, etc. EMS is located nearby and will be called immediately in the event of a more serious injury.
Will there be swimming? And if so, what group will my child be in?
All groups will be swimming 5 days a week and have water slides on Wednesday and Fridays. We offer a swim club after camp for an additional fee. To sign up for this you can call Coach Sam at 954.401.4841. Each child will be evaluated on his or her swimming abilities and certain limitations to the big pool will be assessed on an individual basis. Goggles will not be provided.
